Brahma Kumaris in Kenya

Dear brothers and sisters

On behalf of the Brahma Kumaris, I want to extend our deep compassion and send thoughts of calm and healing to all of those affected by the terrorist attack at the Westgate Mall in Nairobi. We have personally lost friends in this attack and our powerful thoughts are with the families of those who have lost their lives as well as those affected by this. It is not easy losing loved ones, yet the knowledge of the soul being eternal comforts us and we know that those who have gone are truly in God’s hands

It is at times like this when we need to turn our minds to God and draw on His compassion to bring strength, peace and understanding to our hearts so that we can keep our minds free from anger, fear and hate. One can never understand what leads to such brutal action, but we can only overcome such hate with peace. This will allow for our own healing.

It is in dark moments like this that we also witness the resilience, unity and generosity of the Kenyan people. These values define the innate strength and spirituality of the people and will help us heal with time.

With blessings of peace,

Regional Coordinator for the Brahma Kumaris in Africa

BK Vedanti

The Brahma Kumaris acknowledges the intrinsic goodness of all people. Practical method of meditation is taught that helps individuals understand their inner strengths and values. Raja Yoga Meditation is a method of relaxing, refreshing and clearing the mind and heart. It helps you look inside to rediscover and reconnect with your original, spiritual essence. Meditation enables an integration of your spiritual identity with the social and physical realities around you, restoring a functional and healthy balance between your inner and outer worlds. The centres offer courses in meditation, motivational talks and workshops, seminars on positive thinking, self management and stress management.

Nairobi is the headquarters for the Serve Africa project which was initiated in 2004. The Brahma Kumaris had presence in 16 countries. The aim of the Serve Africa Project was to expand its presence into the rest of Africa, giving more people the opportunity of learning how to create inner change. Students and teachers of the existing Brahma Kumaris centres in Africa, pooled their ideas – bringing together strategic thinking skills, experience, energy, time and resources behind a single goal of reaching out to the people of the remaining 40 countries in Africa. This journey became a reality because of all the volunteers who freely gave their time to serve in new countries

"The knowledge that the Brahma Kumaris has impacted me on a practical level. My life has been transformed by channeling my energies into a positive direction." – Margaret Kingor
