Om shanti. I would like to offer you 3 questions that unlock many spiritual mysteries: (1) Who am I? (2) Who do I belong to? (3) What must I do at this time? These three questions represent 3 directions in a raj yoga practice. First, we go inside, and silence the mind. In that stillness, we find the answer to the first question: I am a peaceful soul. Second, we go up and make a connection with the Divine. And third, we go out and move onto the field of action, making sure that we keep an elevated consciousness as we act in the world.
This practice helps us to become detached from everything in the world – from our own bodies and from relationships of the world. When we do this, we draw God’s love. Our old habit of saying “I” comes from ego. And our old way of saying “mine,” creates attachment. But when I remember that I am a soul and I belong to God, then the ego and attachments are broken and I am moving along in a spiritual consciousness.
